Second Meeting

There are many quotes about leadership in the world. One of my favorite ones is by John Quincy Adams, in which he says, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader” (Adams). This quote is a very reflective of my leadership experiences. There have been many instances where I have been in a leadership position and have inspired others to take up other leadership positions or take over for my leadership position. The first example that comes to mind is from senior year of high school and my track team. I was one of the leaders on the team and the younger guys looked up to me. When I graduated, they all thanked me for all I taught them about how to handle the team and to be effective. I was very happy with that because I knew it meant that I was a successful leader there.

I think that the E-Portfolio is a very good tool. It can be a big difference factor when applying for a job. It is a very detailed profile all about you and your accolades. It can be a great tool to use in the rest of your life and can organize everything that you have accomplished into one easy place. Some things that I would like to stand out in my E-Portfolio are my resume, my leadership positions, and group projects that I have worked on. I think that that would highlight my strengths.

I also feel like it is very important for a leader to serve others. By serving others, you help them develop their skills and can hopefully help them become leaders. There is a great need for leaders and by helping other people, you are developing the next group of leaders.

I am very passionate about many things. Many of those things overlap with my leadership. One of the most important things to me would be to help people reach their full potential. There is a certain feeling I get when I know that someone else is having success because of my help. I think that that is perfect with my leadership qualities.

First Meeting

Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog. Here, I will periodically be posting about my experiences as a member of the STARS LEAD Program.

I was first drawn to the STARS program because of my friend Collin. He introduced me to the STARS Program as a whole. He got me to attend the initial meeting and spark my interest in it. After a semester of being in the program, I knew that the STARS LEAD program would help me further develop my leadership skills. With the STARS LEAD program, I can learn to be a better leader with my peers and hopefully get enough experience to potentially be a STARS Mentor next year. That position would require many leadership qualities and I think that the LEAD program can help me perfect those qualities so I can be the best leader possible, even if I don’t end up as a STARS Mentor.

I was very anxious to go to the first STARS Leaders meeting. It was my first chance to meet all the other leaders and to get to know them better. I really liked the ice breaker activity that we did because it gave me a chance to learn more about everyone else, and to also tell everyone a little more about me. I now realize that I should have mentioned that I am a leader in my introduction. I found it very interesting that no one mentioned that. It shows that all of us still have much to learn in order to get to our full potential as leaders. Leadership can also be defined in many ways. I would say that leadership can be defined as having the qualities to be able to direct a group of people in a smart and coherent way during difficult situations, and developing the leadership skills of the individuals in the group as well, from leading by example.
